New basement stairs

Our basement stairs were built in a way that meant you had to duck low to get into the basement. And that makes the basement feel like...well, a basement. Here's our before:

You can see the stairs went straight up to a landing.
You had to duck your head on the last step every time you came down.
But we wanted the basement to feel like a third floor to the house. So first up, Stu worked to hide the plumbing in the ceiling. That suddenly gave loads of breathing room down there. Next, Duncan figured that giving the stairs a curve instead of a small landing halfway down would gain us the extra height we needed at the bottom. Worked like a charm. And now we have our third floor to the house.

New stairs! Donny put a lot of work into these.

Looking down from the main floor.
These stairs were very important for us since this is where the kids will spend a lot of their time. Their main playroom will be set up down here. Yes I know...it looks terrifying right now. But trust me, it's beautiful. Once we get the drywall and lighting in, it will be a welcoming home for our little kidlets.
